This is Bob Leonelli aka “Leo”. We met in high school in 67 at Burlingame high while I spent a year with my dad up here. We were the only 2 surfers in the school! We surfed 3 times a week together between Pacifica and Santa Cruz instead of doing home work. I was in my surf team prime and riding long boards while Bob was just getting started. Short boards came the next year and overnight he was ripping on a 7’ Vee bottom at Wander Inn while I was taking gas in the shore break.
We both loved everything Greenough and through out the years he was my main test pilot along with my brother Pete and KP (Kirk Putman). Bob has most recently been responsible for developing the “Bullet Stub”, the 6’ 2+1 version so many have enjoyed over the past 5 years. Pictured is his latest contribution I have dubbed the “Leenough”. A 6’ by 22” by 2 3/4” quad with a rolled bottom going into double barrel Vee with a quad set up. The board is a copy of Greenoughs red glass spoon “Velo”. Bob and his excellent surfing wife Nancy spend part of every year in Byron Bay and spend time with Rasta and Greenough! Happy Surfing
